BEX Remakes 100+-Year-Old Store Into Modern VCA Clayton Animal Hospital

June 29 2022

An aging antique store has been transformed into one of the region’s most modern animal care facilities with a $1.4 million comprehensive remodel by BEX Construction Services for VCA Clayton Animal Hospital at 132 N. Meramec in Clayton, Mo. Built more than 100 years ago, the 4,400-square-foot structure revealed several surprises during the initial scope of interior reconfiguration into a two-story animal care clinic.

BEX Construction Services renovated a former 4,400-square-foot antiques store into the modern VCA Clayton Animal Hospital in downtown Clayton, MO.

In partnership with Indianapolis-based MD Architects’ Michael Schornack and interior designer Breanna Prater, the BEX team identified options for full exterior recladding, roof replacement and floor stabilization, then expedited ideas with budgets for owner consideration. New James Hardie cement board siding replicated the original cedar lap siding for a durable, elegant exterior. New windows and a new TPO flat roof and new shingle roof were installed.

New interior finishes offer a warm welcome to animals and the people who care for them.

The VCA Clayton Animal Hospital provides medical, surgical, and dental veterinary care, physical therapy, canine chiropractic services and an in-house pharmacy.
