Engineer Bill Slater Joins BEX Construction Services as Project Manager

Bill Slater has joined BEX Construction Services as a project manager. He joins BEX from Wright Construction Services, where he gained four years of intensive project management experience, primarily in retail construction. Slater managed a yearly program of remodeling 175 stores in a 10-month span, honing skills in subcontractor and owner relationships, defining and managing scopes of work, AUTOCAD file preparation and bidding, and project budget and schedule management.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Slater worked as a laboratory technician testing sand density/compaction for backfilling oil fracking wells and then as a quality control assistant at Christy Refractories Company.

He moved into teaching at Ritenour High School in St. Louis County while working on his master’s degree in education at University of Missouri-St. Louis. For his Algebra I class, he implemented a project-based learning curriculum that combined algebra withrunning a business that printed t-shirts and vinyl banners. Students improved math scores by more than 35% year-over-year with this applications approach to learning and the class even made a net profit.
